Choosing fabrics:
Theme fabrics - Asian, African, Kaffe, 30's Reproduction, Civil War Reproduction, Solids or Particular Fabric Manufacturer's Collections.
Accent fabrics - choose 4 or more that distinguish themselves from the others. They should break up the flow of the theme fabrics but look rich and fun.
Fabrics needed for 97" x 97" quilt:
5/8 yards each of 24 theme fabrics
1/2 yard each of 4 accent fabrics
3 yards for inner & outer borders and binding
9 yards backing
Fabrics needed for 74" x 74" quilt:
1/3 yard each of 24 theme fabrics
1/4 yard each of 4 accent fabrics
2 1/8 yard for inner and outer borders and binding
4 1/4 yards backing
24 theme fabrics may be hard to come by. You can double up on the fabrics you really enjoy and cut twice the number of strips and blocks from these.
